Drain Cleaning in Los Angeles, CA
When a drain backs up in LA, you don’t have time to wait two days for a callback. At Maverick Drain, a real person answers your call 24/7 — usually within a couple of rings. We dispatch a technician with the right equipment for your specific drain problem, give you a flat-rate quote in writing before any work starts, and charge $0 just for showing up.
We’ve been clearing LA drains for over 15 years across every kind of housing — Hollywood bungalows from the 1920s, Mid-City Spanish revivals, Silver Lake hillside homes, mid-century ranch homes, and modern infill construction. Different eras mean different pipe materials and different clog patterns. We know what we’re walking into before we get there.
Drain Cleaning Services We Provide in LA
Most drain calls in Los Angeles fall into one of these categories. We handle all of them:
- Clogged kitchen sink and disposal drain
- Clogged bathroom sink
- Clogged shower or bathtub drain
- Clogged toilet
- Main line clog (when multiple fixtures back up at once)
- Drain cleanout access installation or repair
- General clogged drain repair for any fixture
If you’re not sure what’s wrong, just call. We’ll diagnose at no charge and quote the work before we start.
How LA Plumbing Age Affects Your Drains
Los Angeles housing spans more than 100 years of construction, and the era of your home tells us a lot about what we’re likely to find:
Pre-1940 homes (Hancock Park, Hollywood, Larchmont, Mid-Wilshire, Silver Lake, Echo Park, Mt. Washington, Highland Park, Eagle Rock, Beachwood Canyon, parts of Boyle Heights): Original cast iron and galvanized branch lines feeding into clay tile main sewer lines. Decades of mineral scale and grease buildup are the usual culprits. These homes often need hydro jetting in addition to snaking.
1940-1970 homes (Mid-City, parts of Westside, Valley neighborhoods, Eastside): Mix of cast iron and early copper. Cast iron stacks are reaching the end of their service life and often have root intrusion at the sewer lateral.
1970-2000 homes: Copper and early PVC. Better-flowing materials, but kitchen lines still build up grease over time.
Post-2000 homes: Modern ABS or PVC throughout. Generally easier to clear, but newer drain configurations can still develop clogs from cooking grease, hair, and food waste.
We don’t approach every drain the same way. The right tool for your specific clog depends on your line material, your home’s age, and what’s actually causing the backup.
What Causes Most LA Drain Clogs
In our experience working LA homes, drain clogs almost always come from one of these:
- Grease and food waste in kitchen sink lines — the #1 cause of repeat backups
- Hair and soap scum in shower and bathtub drains
- Hard water mineral buildup on the inside of older pipe — common across LA’s water supply
- Tree root intrusion at sewer line joints (especially in older neighborhoods with mature trees)
- Flushed items in toilet lines (wipes, cotton products, kids’ toys)
- Pipe bellies and back-pitch in older clay or cast iron lines that have settled over decades
For one-time clogs, mechanical snaking usually solves the problem. For recurring backups, we recommend hydro jetting — which actually cleans the inside of the pipe instead of just punching a hole through the clog.
When to Call vs. When to Try DIY First
We’d rather give you straight advice than convince you to call us when you don’t need to. Quick guide:
Try DIY first if:
- One sink or shower has slowed down (not stopped) for the first time
- You haven’t tried a plunger or basic drain snake yet
- The clog seems near the fixture (you can hear gurgling under the sink, not in the walls)
Call us if:
- More than one fixture is backing up (this means main line, not branch line — DIY won’t fix it)
- You’ve already tried snaking and it didn’t hold
- You see sewage coming out of a floor drain, tub, or yard cleanout (this is a main line emergency)
- The clog keeps coming back within weeks of clearing
- You smell sewage anywhere in or around the home
- A toilet is overflowing onto the floor
The “more than one fixture” rule is the single most important diagnostic clue. If your kitchen sink AND your bathroom shower AND a toilet are all slow at the same time, that’s almost always a main line issue — and it won’t get better on its own.
How We Work in LA
Every Maverick drain call follows the same process:
- You call (323) 742-4665. A real person — usually Stephanie or another team member — picks up and gets the basics: where you are, what’s clogged, how urgent it is.
- We give you a realistic arrival window. For LA jobs, that’s usually same-day during business hours, and within 1-2 hours for true emergencies (sewage backup, toilet overflow, etc.).
- A technician arrives, in uniform, in a marked Maverick truck. No subcontractors. No call-center hand-off.
- We diagnose the problem. For most drain calls, this includes opening the cleanout and looking at the line. No charge for the diagnostic.
- You get a written, flat-rate quote. You decide. If you say yes, we start. If you say no, you owe us nothing — not even a service call fee.
- We clear the drain. Then we run water to confirm flow is restored, clean up after ourselves, and walk you through what we found.

Los Angeles Drain Cleaning FAQ
How fast can you get to me in LA?
Same-day during business hours for most non-emergency calls, and within 1-2 hours for true emergencies (active sewage backup, toilet overflow, water on the floor). Real-person dispatch means we can give you a realistic ETA when you call, not a “between 8 AM and 4 PM” window.
Is there a charge just to come out?
No. We charge a $0 dispatch fee. You only pay if you approve the quoted work.
How is drain cleaning priced?
Flat-rate per job, quoted before any work starts. Pricing depends on the type of clog, access conditions, and how stubborn the blockage is. No surprise add-ons at the end. No surcharges for nights, weekends, or holidays.
Do you work on apartments and rental properties?
Yes. We work with homeowners, property managers, and landlords across LA. For multi-unit properties, we can coordinate directly with property management on access and billing.
My drain has been backing up every few months. Is snaking enough?
Probably not. Recurring backups usually mean the pipe wall has buildup (grease, scale, or roots) that snaking won’t remove. Recurring clogs are almost always solved by hydro jetting, which scrubs the pipe back to clean. We’ll usually recommend a camera inspection first to confirm the cause.
Do you handle main line clogs?
Yes. When more than one fixture is backing up at once, that’s usually a main line clog and requires opening the cleanout. We have the equipment and experience for main line work — and if the line needs more than clearing, we can run a camera and recommend next steps.
